IPL vs Laser – a crash course
If you have been thinking about a more permanent or longer term hair removal solution, then why not consider laser hair removal or IPL hair removal? Laser vs IPL? Both Laser and IPL have been used to remove unwanted hair for many years now with a high degree of success.
Although both IPL and Laser are light based technologies, there is a number of differences between Laser and Intense Pulsed Light devices.
Let’s concentrate on just a few here.
The major difference is of course the wavelength of light produced. IPL is slightly younger and newer treatment than laser. It works on the same principle of heating up and damaging the hair follicle, but instead of using a single wavelength of light a flash lamp emits various wavelengths.
Another big difference is in the area that can be treated in one shot and therefore speeds of the treatment. Generally IPL treatment heads larger (some up to 7 times) than the small spot produced by lasers and therefore treatments are much quicker.
Our article Laser vs IPL – battle of the lights reviews safety consideration of Laser and IPL. And another article Important Facts About Laser and Laser technology provides insight on use of lasers for various skin problems.
Laser and IPL are both effective for hair reduction but it largely depends on a careful assessment and analysis of your skin and hair colour, as well as the type of hair and body part you would like your hair be reduced. Other important issues such as hormone imbalances, certain medications and/or health conditions need to be considered and possibly investigated in order to achieve the best possible outcome, no matter whether Laser or IPL that is used for treatment.
